Pumpkin emergency!

Oh no...The pumpkins are in short supply! According to the news, this year's crop did quite poorly and the pumpkins canned for 2008 are almost gone. Whatever are we to do? We must have our pumpkin pie with a blob of Cool Whip!

My sister said she had looked for canned pumpkin at a large grocery store in Madison WI and the shelves were bare. She managed to find a single can at another store. This is scary stuff.

In addition to pumpkin pie, we also adore pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting. I am betting that we will soon be getting recipes on TV and in the papers for sweet potato pie or substituting squash in pumpkin recipes.

Believe me, I'm holding my breath on this one.

Well, last time I was in the store, plenty of pumpkin pie filling around here. Guess I'd better stock up.
And, our local vendors who sell their own produce in this area seem to have plenty of pumpkins sitting around, guess its all in topography.

Maybe I'm being an alarmist. But I just couldn't face Thanksgiving without a couple of pumpkin pies!

The pumpkins are coming out our ears in CA! I've seen them and they are plentiful. Maybe there is just a regional shortage. We'll have to send some out to you!! Plus my SIL cans it from our garden so if the store runs low we'll use hers up. :)

I prefer fresh pumpkin anyhow for my pie and the fresh ones are very plentiful around here. Hope your store soon gets another shipment.
Though I much prefer sweet tator pies.

So proud to have found your blog through Penniwigs. I've lamented the lack of pumpkin here in my Ohio small town. When it came available I grabbed several cans...can you just see it now...pumpkin wars the nearer we get to the holidays...LOL!

Thanks for all the offers and concerns, fellow bloggers! I appreciate you all.
With Dame Penniwig's sweet potato pie and other alternatives, I will surely survive. Sigh...
