Show and Tell

I was inspired by Elaine and Meggie to post my collection of emerald-green glass. I don't wear jewelry and I'm not attracted to jewels except for emeralds. I love the gorgeous green. I've been collecting green glass objects for many years. Most of these items came from second-hand stores and cost two or three dollars. The one in the middle with the "ruffles" cost the most at $28. I found it in an antique shop and it was so beautiful that I couldn't resist.

I also collect cougars, cedar waxwings and Garfields. Most of my large Garfield collection is packed away and some of my better cougar and cedar waxwing pieces too.

On the top shelf on the left side are two teapots that I picked up for my granddaughter when she was collecting them. But she grew up and decided not to collect them anymore, so there they sit.

Building a collection piece-by-piece can be a lot of fun until you reach the saturation point. It seems that when friends and family learn you collect something, they will start adding to it as well (note granddaughter teapots) and pretty soon your passion starts to wane.

Here is my vacation souvenir collection. In the midst of it are the two silhouette pictures that my mom had hanging on the dining room wall when I was a kid. They aren't rare and I see that a similar pair sells for only ten dollars on ebay. I'm pleased to have them on my wall anyway.

I am struck by the realization that these photos make me look like a real pack rat! Hmmm...

I'm happy we inspired you to post some photos of your collecting. So many of my things were actually gifts or handed down to me. Thanks for sharing...

My mother collected salt & pepper shakers... and chickens (ceramic.. not the live ones). When she passed away we had not a clue what to do with them. It was sad.. I think most of them sold in a yard sale. I still have my favorite chicken... and my kids each took some of those. I love your collections and hope you have someone to pass them on to who will appreciate them.

What fantastic collections, I particularly love the green glass! You should ask Owl what happened when we found he was collecting piggy banks...!

I used to collect bells and someone suggested that I insure them as I had a few that were numbered and were rare. Sadly just before I went to do it, they were all stolen. To this day-I've never found who took them. Sue

I once had a collection of green vases, most of which I found at second hand stores. I gave them away in my move back to Minn. and miss them, but one was left in the house I bought and I love it. Hope to pick up more this summer. It's fun to see what people collect.

Most of my collections end before they begin, excepting the cat whiskers I keep putting into the little vase. But I sure can collect for others. My sister has a magnificent pig collection...

As Elaine intimates, never make a throw-away remark that you quite like unusual pigs ... before you know it you'll be under a small mountain of them!

Glass is a fantastic material, deep cobalt blue is my weakness. All of my windows are glazed with it.

Green is beautiful, cheers.

Not a pack rat at all, but someone with nicely displayed collections. I have a collection of paper weights from places I've visited and from places friends have visited. I don't buy many any more but I enjoy looking at them and remembering my travels.

wonderful green glass collection you have there; Most of my collections have gone by the wayside. I used to have quite a collection of other people's pottery vases for flower arranging and flower frogs, and some glass vases, but they are all gone now. I found I have quite a collection of my own pottery now so I have decided to let most of it go too, needing to downsize as much as possible.

The green glass is lovely.

I don't really collect anything other than books.

I, too, love emeralds and enjoy looking in jewelry store windows to see how creatively they can be designed. Your glass collection is beautiful! I enjoy seeing what others collect, but am not a collector myself. My husband was a major pack rat but has since reformed.
