When I was a little kid, I used to contemplate the year 2000 when I would be 60. I wondered if I would even reach such an advanced old age. (I would also stand on a chair and contemplate what it would be like to be tall like a grownup.) As it turned out, I needn't have been concerned--I didn't grow to be that tall, and turning 60 was great!
However, turning 70 gives me pause. I see my image in the mirror and wonder, am I really as old as I look? I wince when I'm treated as elderly but there's no denying it now...I am over 70!
Don't get me wrong, I am content with my life. I have four great kids of whom I am tremendously proud, not to mention the grandkids and great-grandkids. But there is more to life than producing descendants. So, I now contemplate Grandma Moses and others who managed to flourish in their later years. It's time I gave myself a kick in the butt and got back to my writing.
I just hope that old lady in the mirror doesn't take the wind out of my sails!

Think of yourself, see yourself, as that gal right up there, running through a golden field, in a bikini, flying a kite. That's You. Really.
I agree with Teresa, your first comment gal....what you envision, is who you really are. The outside wrapper is your disquise!
I'm pushing 60, and admire your spunk! Keep it coming, and enjoy this new decade!
Age is definitely relative. Don't let it take the wind out of your sails...I'm sure not going to. I've got GOALS, by golly...and there's no way I'm going to buckle under to something silly like getting older.
Love the picture and the quote is right on!
I almost forgot....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday!
And 70? I hear it's the new 55.

Yep, and 60 is the new 40. For sure!
70 is just a number. Your mind and your heart are the true age definers. You're just fine!
You're just a chicken !
Wow you should be very proud of yourself!! You have a blog and you are an awesome writer among many other things!! Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday! I hope you are celebrating for at least a week, and that you are doing something a little special for yourself. When I turned 50, someone gave me a copy of a poem, "When I Am Old I Shall Wear Purple." (I think that's right.) Then they apologized for the reference to "old." I decided to ignore that part and focus on the notion that right then, I would try to live with passion and without fear. Still working on it, but it's a good goal, no? And it leaves age out of the equation entirely. So again, Happy Birthday!
Thanks for all your good wishes!
I especially liked the comment that 70 is the new 55. I think I'll go with that!
How'd I miss this post??? HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, Ms. Sparrow.
You know how I tell predictions? I have caught a vibe about yo -- oh, months ago now -- that you are going to be a published author soon. A whole series. So get busy.
You may have turned 70, but in my mind, you are still tap dancing in the kitchen in your flat bottom tennis shoes. You are only as old as you feel !!!
Happy, happy birthday and wishes for a great year. As someone who just turned 60 I think 60 is the new 40 and 70 is the new 50. I picture myself on the Today Show and Willard Scott, as a peppy 120 year old is showing my face on the Smucker's jar!
Happy Belated Birthday...any age is a great age for doing something you enjoy.
You are only ten in dog years.
