Well, the Impala was totalled. It only had 81,000 miles on it so it was really too young to die. The damage didn't look that bad but the repair estimate was three pages long. Who knew there was so much stuff inside?
I was really impressed with the quick service I got from State Farm. They gave me a check on Friday. We have rented a car to use for car shopping for a different car (which is almost as bad as job-hunting!). There are so many ways we could get a bad deal, thank goodness my son-in-law is helping. The guy loves looking for cars--go figure!
I had managed to get my weight down to 197, but with all the hassle, I'm back over 200 again. I have belonged to TOPS (among many other weight-loss groups) and their creed is. "I am an intelligent person, I will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me." Much as I may try, I can't remain that detached. I was in TOPS during 9/11 and gained 10 pounds in one week.
Thanks for all your kind words and support. I really appreciate you all!

Well, that damage does not look like it warranted 3 pages of estimate! At least you have some knowledgeable help choosing a new car.
I really like that TOPS creed. Think I'll copy it and post it on my refrigerator :-) You can do it!
Ouch! I don't like car shopping either. The first two times I bought a car I just paid whatever price they told me. It's great that your son-in-law is helping.
Yes, I like that TOPS creed. I have a problem with a bit of yo-yo-ing myself, hoping to finally get some balance. Gardening helps :)
Dear ms Sparrow. Read your post on your blog...Do not worry yourself. I use to be 265#. I cut out a lot of penut butter/soda etc. I use to smoke and that took me years to quit. Now I'm trying to cut out MT Dew....Now that is hard...the point is sometimes ya fall off the wagon just get back on. Quiting smoking was a process and so will quiting dew....Your weight is just a number dont let it get in the way of being happy...Sometimes things are what they are...

Gosh, I just had the opposite thing happen. My car should have been "totalled" but they insisted on repair and now it drives crazy and pulls to the right and is unstable. ARGH! They get us comin' and goin.'
I'm not criticizing your choice but I didn't care for the TOPS attitude -- I felt it was kind of BLAMING the person or chiding them. I have a friend who swears by Overeaters Anonymous but their meetings are hard to find in some locales.
Hi again, Sparrow Lady. Just wanted to say I hope your air conditioning is on today! Wow, it's hot out there. :-)
Good luck finding a new car for yourself...and don't worry about the weight. It happens. Just do your best. It will all be okay.
Hope things are going well and you've got fixed up with a new car.
Glad you got the funds from the insurance so quickly. Low carb really helps, Atkins, and a fine safe dependable car that actually gets good mileage is a Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis; used with low miles of course.
So where are we, Ms. Sparrow? Time for a picture of the new car!!
